GROUP FINANCIAL MANAGER Permanent

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic planning and implementation

• Assist in formulating the company’s future financial direction and supporting tactical initiatives
• Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans and their financial implications on the business
• Assist in the developing financial and tax strategies
• Drive policies and procedures down to subsidiary level
• Manage the budgeting processes

Budget preparation

• Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation, and prepare the annual budget in consultation with the Finance Director

Financial accounting and reporting

• Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for the users in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
• Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures
• Ensure that all statutory financial and reporting requirements of the organisation are met including Income Tax, payroll taxes and VAT
• Prepare all supporting information for the annual audit and the internal and external auditors where necessary
• Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions
• Develop and maintain financial accounting processes for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash
• Review and sign off the monthly GL reconciliations
• Review monthly results and implement monthly variance reporting
• Manage the cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts in accordance with policy
• Oversee the bookkeeping function including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation
• Assist the Finance Director and the Board with financial reporting as required at EXCO and Board meetings
• Assist Auditors with annual audit

Financial operations management

• Participate in key decisions as a member of the senior management team
• Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team
• Manage the accounting, investor relations, legal and tax activities
• Manage any third parties to which financial functions have been outsourced
• Implement financial best practices
• Oversee the group consolidation process
• Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate acquisitions
• Implement strong internal controls

Strategic projects

• Identify areas for improved finance efficiencies within the group
• Fully manage and drive all projects and manage project budgets

Payroll preparation and administration

• Oversee outsourced payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner

Project management accounting

• Maintain financial records for each project in a manner that facilitates management reports
• Provide accurate and timely reporting on the financial activity of individual projects

Information technology

• Evaluate the need for new technology to meet the organisation’s financial data processing, control, and reporting requirements including implementing a new leave system
• Advise on appropriate technology that meets the organisation’s information requirements and financial resources

Office administration

• Oversee and supervise the administrative function of the organisation including reception, property/facility management, and provision of furnishings and equipment necessary for effective operations
• Oversee the management of all leases, contracts and other financial commitments

Risk management and governance

Risk Management

• Monitor risk management policies and procedures to ensure that program and organisational risks are minimized
• Maximize income where possible and appropriate
• Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile. This includes collaborating with senior team members in the identification and analysis of risks
• Classify the risk and implement and monitor reliable control systems to counter the risk.
• Maintain a good working relationship with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations
• Report risk issues to the Finance Director and the Board of Directors
• Ensure that record keeping meets required audit standards
• Communicate and share information on controls to educate internal customers

Governance

• Identify and evaluate gaps in policy, processes and procedures relevant to the successful achievement of business goals
• Engage stakeholders in the improvement and or simplification of policies, processes and procedures
• Generate innovative solutions by drawing up a contingency plan within policy and legislative framework to deal with problems and opportunities

Develop, mentor and coach team members

• Develop team member competencies by mentoring and coaching
• Coaching and training of subsidiary accounting staff
• Give timely, specific feedback to improve performance and recognise good performance
• Influence and motivate team members
• Manage conflict

Mange Human Resources function of group company

• Perform BEE Audits
• Perform Skills Development audits
• Update HR Files
• Prepare all statutory labour reports

• A minimum of Five (5) years’ experience in a Financial Management role
